Student Posts Notes from Spain
Catawba College Sophomore Danielle "Dani" Schneider of New Castle, Delaware, is spending part of her summer in Spain participating in a language immersion program at Menédez Pelayo International University in Santander. The program is sponsored by International Studies Abroad (ISA).

Catawba College's Vice President for External Relations and Chairman Emeritus of the State Board of Education Phillip Kirk is a member of a new Blue Ribbon Charter School Commission convened by the State Board of Education.
Catawba College Commits to Fight Global Warming
Catawba College has joined close to 300 other colleges and universities nationwide in supporting the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). At their May retreat, college trustees authorized President Robert Knott to sign the agreement on behalf of the institution.
Tar Heel Boys' State at Catawba College June 17-23
Catawba College will host the 68th annual session of Tar Heel Boys' State June 17-23. This is the fifth consecutive year that the weeklong event has been held on campus and approximately 250 participants, all rising high school seniors from North Carolina, are expected.
Women's Basketball Reunion Set for February, 2008
All former Catawba Women Basketball players should set aside the weekend of February 15th and 16th, 2008 for a reunion. A reception will be held on campus Friday night, February 15th with lunch planned for Saturday, the 16th along with the recognition of returning players during the game with South Atlantic Conference foe Mars Hill Saturday afternoon. All the final plans will be mailed early November, 2007.
Third International Hydrail Conference at Catawba Center for Environment
Experts from around the world will convene at the Center for the Environment at Catawba College in August to discuss the development of hydrogen-powered railways and transit. Pioneers in the new technology will deliver presentations at the Third International Hydrail Conference to expedite the development of this petroleum- and pollution-free method of transportation. "Hydrail" is the general term used to describe hydrogen-powered railways and transit. One focus of the conference will be hydrail
Catawba Community Music Students Participate in Spring Recitals
The Catawba Community Music Program provided two performance opportunities for many of the students enrolled in the program. Both recitals were held Sunday, May 20 in the Tom Smith Auditorium on the campus of Catawba College. Music of diverse styles was shared by performers ranging from young to adult students on a variety of instruments.
Band with Catawba Ties "Drifts" Into Town for a Rare Appearance
The Delta Drift made a rare hometown appearance June 9 at Las Palmas. The band's heavy touring schedule has been taking them everywhere but close by as they've been traveling throughout the Southeast and up to Cincinnati, performing and promoting their new CD, "Desolate City." The "Drift" part of their name is appropriate, given their long hours on the road. And, in a case of life imitating art, a yearning for travel is a pervading theme of songs on the Desolate City album,
Catawba College Dean's List Announced
A total of 218 students have been named to the Dean's List for the spring semester at Catawba College, according to Dr. Jesse McCartney, Provost of the College. Students named to the Dean's List have achieved a 3.5 grade point average in 15 or more semester hours.
Catawba College Class of 2007 Graduates
On May 12, 2007, 279 members of Catawba's Class of 2007 crossed the stage and received their diplomas. The college awarded master's degrees in education, bachelor of arts degrees, bachelor of business administration degrees, bachelor of fine arts degrees and bachelor of science degrees in two separate ceremonies in Keppel Auditorium.
Catawba College Presidential Honor Roll Announced
A total of 117 students have been named to the Presidential Honor Roll List for the 2006-2007 academic year at Catawba College, according to Dr. Jesse McCartney, Provost of the college. Students named to the Presidential Honor Roll List have achieved a 3.7 grade point average in 30 or more semester hours.
New Scholarship Established to Recognize Two Native American Brothers
Catawba College Alumnus Ray Oxendine '61 of Maxton has established a scholarship at Catawba College which will keep the Oxendine family name alive at the institution for perpetuity. Preference for the Oxendine Brothers Endowed Scholarship will be given to a deserving Native American student, especially a Lumbee or Catawba Indian.
Something about Hayley
Business internships are hard to find. Paid internships are even harder to come by. But there's something about Hayley. Hayley Bollinger, a recent Catawba College grad, made such an impression on members of Catawba’s Business Advisory Council that she landed a paid internship with the Sales and Marketing office at Trinity Oaks Retirement Community.
Catawba College to Host the 68th Consecutive Session of Tar Heel Girls State
For the sixth consecutive year, Catawba College will host Tar Heel Girls State June 10-16. Two hundred and seventy five girls from across North Carolina, all high school juniors who are academically in the top third of their class, will attend the 68th annual, weeklong session, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of North Carolina.
Catawba College Student Receives Annual Service Award
Jon Rhodes, a Catawba College junior from Virginia Beach, Va., was selected from the monthly winners of the institution’s Paul Fisher Service Award to receive the annual Paul Fisher Service Award. That annual award carries a $250 scholarship provided by F & M Bank of Salisbury and named in honor of the bank's Chairman of the Board Paul Fisher who exemplifies in his own life the spirit of service.
Phillip J. Kirk, Jr. Named Recipient of the 2007 Jay Robinson Leadership Award
On Monday, June 4, Phillip "Phil" J. Kirk, Jr. was named the seventh recipient of the Jay Robinson Leadership Award given by the Public School Forum of NC. A $5,000 cash prize was given by BB&T and an anonymous donor. The award honors the extraordinary leadership and service of Dr. Jay Robinson, former school superintendent and State Board of Education Chair.
