    Articulon Creates Brand Identity Package for Phil Kirk

    Raleigh, NC (November 28, 2006) Cindy Stranad, principal of Articulon, a boutique public relations and branding firm, announces today the completion of an identity package for Phil Kirk, vice president of external relations of Catawba College in Salisbury and owner of his own speaking and consulting business. Articulon completed and distributed a branded business capabilities package as well as created a positioning themeline, "Speaking. Entertaining. Informing."

    Chiefs Club Membership at Record Level!

    Chiefs Club President Dave VanAken reports that Chiefs membership is at 462 members as of November 28, 2006 and that represents an all time high. Last year's membership totaled 449 and this year's 462 surpasses the goal of 460. President VanAken said "now we have our sights set at 500 members and it can be done."

    Holiday Danceworks Kicks Off the Season

    The Catawba College Theatre Arts presents Holiday Danceworks at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 3 in Keppel Auditorium of the Robertson College-Community Center.

    N.C. Author to Speak at Catawba College

    When Catawba College Psychology Professor Dr. Lyn Boulter wanted her first-year seminar students to talk about how love, hate and fear affect our choices in life in her seminar course, Villains and Heroes, she chose to use a memoir by a N.C. man.

    Catawba College Writer-in-Residence to Read Poetry in London

    Dr. Janice Fuller, Catawba College's Writer-in-Residence, has been invited to read her poetry at the Troubador Club in London on December 4. She will be one of the featured readers at the launch of the latest issue of Magma, London's leading poetry magazine. Her poem "Séance: On the Road to Stradone" is one of the poems included in the magazine. This issue of Magma also includes new poems by Seamus Heaney and former U.S. poet laureate Billy Collins.     Catawba College Music Department to Present Nineteenth Annual Service of Lessons and Carols

    For the nineteenth consecutive year, the Catawba College Department of Music will present its annual Christmas Choral Concert, A Service of Lessons and Carols, Tuesday and Thursday, December 5 and December 7, in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on campus.

    Catawba College's Tara Ketcham Receives Statewide Community Impact Student Award

    Tara Ketcham, of Catawba College, received the inaugural North Carolina Campus Compact (NCCC) Community Impact Student Award on November 11, 2006 at North Carolina State University during the annual NCCC Student Conference. This award will be presented each year to students who have made significant, innovative contributions to campus-based efforts to address community needs. Ketcham was one of 21 college students from across North Carolina to be recognized for their outstanding achievements.

    Hunger Banquet Heightens Awareness at Catawba College

    Those who attended Catawba College's Hunger Banquet on Monday, Nov. 13 were divided into three groups and served very different menus. Sixty percent of the attendees, randomly given "identity" cards which assigned them to the Third World, sat on the floor of Crystal Lounge and were given white rice on wax paper; 25 percent, representing the Second World, sat in chairs and were handed bowls of potato corn soup; and 15 percent, representing the First World, sat at tables covered with white cloths

    Catawba College Professor Tapped for New Responsibility

    Dr. Beth Homan, assistant professor of theatre arts at Catawba College, has been named coordinator of Catawba's First-Year Seminar Program, beginning immediately and running through the 2007-08 academic year. The appointment was announced by Dr. Barbara Hetrick, vice president and dean of the college.

    Dr. Barbara Hetrick, vice president and dean of the college at Catawba College, chaired a session on "Mental Health Challenges on Campus" at the Council of Independent Colleges’ 50th Anniversary Conference in St. Petersburg, Fla., November 3-7.

    Catawba College Professor Has Paper Accepted for International Conference

    Dr. Sanford Silverburg, a Catawba College professor of political science, has had a paper accepted for presentation at an international conference, scheduled Feb. 22-23, 2007 in Brussels. The conference is titled "Law and Economic Development: Towards Constructive Engagement in the Middle East."

    Needy Will Have Turkey Thanks to Ducks

    One hundred and twenty-five needy area families will enjoy a complete Thanksgiving meal this year, thanks to a Duck Draw Community Service Fundraiser sponsored by Catawba College's Residence Life Staff. Before a small gathering of faculty, staff and students, over 1,000 brightly colored plastic ducks were set afloat shortly before noon Monday in the fountain outside of the Cannon Student Center on campus.     Campus Construction Update

    Following a symbolic groundbreaking for Abernethy Village held September 19, and the demolition one month later of the circa-1966 Abernethy Residence Hall, all is on schedule and going according to plan with the construction of five new residence halls on campus. That according to Catawba College’s Director of Facilities Henry Haywood who said those residence halls will be ready to use by the beginning of ’07-’08 academic year.

    Catawba College Honors Three Distinguished Alumni at Homecoming BBQ

    Three Catawba College alumni were honored as recipients of the College's Distinguished Alumnus Award during a barbecue luncheon held Saturday, Nov. 4 in the Goodman Gymnasium of the Abernethy Physical Education Center before the football game against Presbyterian College.

    Beloved Professor and Coach Honored at Homecoming Dedication

    Dr. Frank "Dutch" Meyer, a retired wrestling coach and professor in Catawba College’s physical education department, held court on Saturday, Nov. 4, Catawba’s Homecoming. More than a hundred of his former students, colleagues and friends lined up to greet him before the start of a 10:30 a.m. ceremony which dedicated the Auxiliary Gymnasium of the Abernethy Physical Education Center to him.

    Bitzer Comments on NC 8th Congressional District Race

    Dr. Michael Bitzer, chair of the Department of History and Politics, offered commentary on election returns Tuesday, Nov. 7 on Time Warner Cable's News 14. He was featured in election updates that aired each half hour beginning at 7:25 p.m. and lasting until 10:30 p.m.

    Catawba College Tuesday 515 Series to Feature Catawba Handbells

    The public is invited to attend a Catawba College Tuesday Music 515 performance on at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 14, 2006, in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on campus. The performance will feature a program of music for handbell ensemble.

    '43 Alumna Establishes Scholarship at Catawba College

    Alma Wagoner Leinbach '43 of Newton says it was almost predetermined that she would attend Catawba College. To ensure that other students have the same opportunity that she, and other members of her family, did, Mrs. Leinbach has established a scholarship at the institution. Preference for the Roy E. and Alma W. Leinbach Endowed Scholarship Fund will be given to able and deserving pre-ministerial students or students from Catawba County who demonstrate need.
