At the recent North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics conference in Greensboro, Dr. Sharon Sullivan, assistant professor of mathematics at Catawba College, presented a talk "Teaching Math through Art."

The main idea of the talk was to demonstrate the interdisciplinary aspect of mathematics by showing its connections to art. This presentation was compiled from her experiences in developing two courses at Catawba. The first was a course for the first-year seminar program entitled: The Golden Connection: Math and Art. The second course, which she is co-teaching this fall with Dr. Charlie McAllister, a professor of history, is for the Catawba Honors Program entitled: Math, Art and Culture.
