Dr. Gordon Grant, an associate professor of English at Catawba College, has agreed to serve as chair of the Department of English for a three-year term beginning in August, 2006.  That announcement was made by Dr. Barbara Hetrick, vice president and dean of the College.

Grant will also continue to serve as director of rhetoric and composition.  As the new chair of the Department of English, he replaces Dr. Bethany Sinnott, professor of English, who will continue to teach in that department.

At its February meeting, the Catawba College Board of Trustees approved tenure for Grant, effective with the 2006-2007 academic year.  He joined the Catawba faculty in 2003.  Prior to joining Catawba, he served as an assistant professor of English at Baylor University and the University of Charleston, W.Va., and as an assistant instructor of English and a teaching assistant at the University of Texas.

He earned his undergraduate degree in English from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and both his master's degree and doctorate in English from the University of Texas at Austin.
