    Catawba College Center for Environment Director Featured on International Broadcast of 'Earth & Sky'

    Dr. John Wear, director of the Catawba College Center for the Environment, will be featured March 8 on the syndicated science radio program "Earth & Sky." The series is broadcast globally on 1,000 radio stations and has 10 million weekly listeners.

    Catawba College Senior Salute Targets 2006 Graduates

    Catawba College's annual Senior Salute was held Thursday, February 23 in the Cannon Student Center. The event was a one-stop opportunity for seniors to communicate with various offices on campus before graduating on May 13 and to also order graduation announcements and class rings. Participating offices included student affairs, alumni, library and the career center.

    Catawba College Professor to Speak at Conference

    Dr. Sanford Silverburg, professor and chair of the political science department at Catawba College, was a lecturer at the 11th annual Florida Chautauqua Assembly held February 23-26 at the Chautauqua Center in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Silverburg's lecture was entitled "America as the Cop on the World Beat."

    Two Catawba College Faculty Members Granted Tenure

    The Catawba College Board of Trustees voted at its annual meeting February 21 to grant tenure to two faculty members. Dr. Gordon Grant, associate professor of English, and Dr. Joseph Poston, assistant professor of biology, will be tenured effective with the beginning of the 2006-2007 academic year.

    Trustee Commitment Helps Catawba College Meet $35 Million Endowment Campaign Goal

    A $2 million commitment from Catawba College Trustee Chester A. "Junie" Michael III '70 of Mooresville helped the institution meet its $35 million endowment campaign goal in only two years. However, college officials say they will not be resting on that success.

    Catawba College's Oldest Living Alumna Has Fond Memories of Alma Mater

    Ninety-eight year old Julia Albright Freeland Slate of Salisbury is a pretty woman with bright blue eyes, carefully coiffed hair, fashionable clothing put together with aplomb and a ready smile. In 1929 when this Spencer native graduated from Catawba College, she was likely considered a real knock-out.

    Southern Pines Couple Establish Scholarship at Catawba College

    Leland R. '64 and Bonnie P. Moore of Southern Pines have made a gift to establish a new scholarship at Catawba College. The Leland R. and Bonnie P. Moore Scholarship will provide financial assistance to a need based student athlete who demonstrates scholastic and athletic ability, along with dedication to team and school.

    Catawba College's Academic Dean Recognized by National Association

    Dr. Barbara Hetrick, Catawba College Vice President and Academic Dean, was recognized at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AACU) annual meeting as a founder and continuing contributor to the Associated New American Colleges (ANAC) on the occasion of the ANAC's 10th anniversary. The tribute was made during the AACU's annual meeting held earlier this month in Washington, D.C.

    Two Catawba College Faculty Have Articles Accepted for Publication

    Dr. Andrew Morris, Catawba College Associate Professor of Management, Dr. Lynn Boulter, Catawba College Professor of Psychology, and Dr. Celeste Brotheridge of the Université du Québec à Montréal had an article accepted for publication in Journal of the Academy of Business Education (Wake Forest University). The article was entitled" Bringing Positive Psychology into the Business Classroom: Gratitude Visits as a way to Develop Emotional Intelligence."

    Catawba College Theatre Department Presents "Fat Pig"

    Catawba College's student-directed play "Fat Pig" explores the idea of beauty in an era when carbs are closely counted, extreme makeovers are commonplace, and Hollywood establishes the ideals of beauty. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. February 22-25 in the Florence Busby Corriher Theatre on campus.

    Catawba College Tuesday 515 Series Resumes February 14

    The public is invited to attend the first in Catawba College' Tuesday Music 515 performances for the spring semester at 5:15 p.m. on February 14, 2006 in the Omwake Dearborn Chapel on campus.

    Catawba College to Be Represented on Technology Advisory Committee

    Catawba College is among several high education institutions across the country that will participate in the CDWG Technology Advisory Group. Chad Lewis, Catawba's manager of academic computing, will serve as the institution's representative on the committee which will help promote and exchange new technology ideas.

    Leo and Virginia Wallace Establish Second Scholarship Fund at Catawba College

    Leo '34 and Virginia Wallace '37 of Salisbury have established a second scholarship fund at their alma mater, Catawba College. The two are and have been models of both commercial leadership and civic responsibility in Salisbury for many decades.
