    Catawba College Mathematics Professor Makes Presentations

    Catawba College Mathematics Professor, Dr. Paul Baker, recently presented a paper at the national conference of the School Science and Mathematics Association held in Fort Worth, Texas. His paper was entitled "Do Two Half-Lives Equal One Whole Life?"

    Alaskan Poet to Offer Public Reading at Catawba College

    Alaskan Poet Joseph Enzweiler will read his work at a public reading sponsored by the Catawba College English Department at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 15 in Tom Smith Auditorium of Ketner Hall on campus.

    Catawba College Students Plan Black History Month Events

    Some Catawba College students are planning events to commemorate Black History Month and several of these are open to the public. These include a showing of a movie, a dance exhibition, and a talent showcase.

    "When Religion Becomes Evil"

    The Catawba College Community Forum will sponsor a presentation by Dr. Charles Kimball, author of the book, When Religion Becomes Evil, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2006 in Tom Smith Auditorium in Ralph W. Ketner Hall on campus.

    Playwright On-Hand for Discussion following Performances of "All of the Above"

    Playwright Tom Sime will be on hand to discuss "All of the Above" following performances of it Tuesday, Feb. 7 and Wednesday, Feb. 8 in Hedrick Theatre at Catawba College.

    Catawba College Theatre Arts Department Presents "All of the Above"

    The world premier of "All of the Above," by Playwright Tom Sime, one of the winners of this year's Peterson Emerging Playwright Competition, will be presented by the Catawba College Theatre Arts Department at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7-11 in Hedrick Theatre on campus.

    Catawba College's Writer-in-Residence Has Poems Accepted for Publication

    Catawba College Writer-In-Residence Dr. Janice Fuller has had several of her poems accepted for inclusion in different publications.The San Diego Reader selected Fuller's poem "My Aunt Raises Violets from Africa," as the Poem of the Week for its December 8, 2005 edition.

    Catawba College Seniors Invited to Life-skills 101

    Catawba College seniors set to graduate in May are getting some coaching for life after college thanks to a new program on campus. "Life-skills 101: Navigating Life after College" is a four-part personal development series offered jointly by the Offices of Alumni Relations and Career Services.

    Catawba College Students Recognized at Opening Convocation

    A number of Catawba College students were recognized during when the College was convened for spring semester January 19 in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel. Members of the soon-to-be graduating class of 2006 donned caps and gowns to robe and process for the event. Students whose academic achievements earned them a place on the Dean's List for fall 2005 or the Presidential Honor Roll for the 2004-2005 academic year were recognized.

    1949 Alumnus and His Spouse Provide Funds for Endowed Scholarship and Orientation Program at Catawba College

    Catawba College Alumnus Grady Shoe '49 and his wife, Frances, of Mooresville have provided a $100,000 gift to establish an endowed scholarship and an endowment for the College's annual Orientation Program.

    Catawba College Lecturer Is Also Avid Writer

    It's not often that a sister gets paid to toot her brother's horn. Catawba College Communication Arts lecturer Cyndi Allison Wittum was recently contacted by SAS (a computer software company) about taking on some freelance writing projects starting with a story about her brother, Dr. Robert Allison, winning a national computer dashboard contest.

    Catawba College Students Named to Who's Who List

    An area student is among the 16 from Catawba College who will be included in the 2006 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." The students were selected based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

    Catawba's Community Music Program Accepting Enrollments, Adds Piano Faculty

    The Catawba Community Music Program, an outreach of the Catawba College Music Department, is accepting enrollments for spring semester and a new instructor has joined the piano faculty.

    Mooresville Couple Establishes New Scholarship at Catawba College

    A 1998 Catawba College alumnus and his wife have established a scholarship at the institution. Preference for the J. Trent and Ruth K. Newell Endowed Scholarship will be given to a member of the football team who is majoring in business and is involved in volunteerism.

    A New Look at Old Catawba

    Catawba College was already over 70 years old when the school opened its doors in Salisbury in 1925. The drama of Catawba's early years was played out at the institution's birthplace in Newton, North Carolina. The late Dr. William F. Palmer, a Catawba College professor emeritus of education, was working on an illustrated history of those early years in Newton when the project was interrupted by his untimely death in the fall of 2005.

    Catawba College Announces Interim Chair of Ketner School of Business

    Ms. Pamela Thompson, associate professor of business administration/information systems at Catawba College, has agreed to serve as interim chair of the Ketner School of Business for spring semester 2006.

    Catawba College Student and Professor Have Paper Published

    Catawba College student Cathrine Balentine of Charlotte, a senior psychology major, and Dr. Sheila Brownlow, professor of psychology, have collaborated to produce a research paper which has been accepted for publication.
