Catawba College Professor and Student Present Research at Conference
Dr. John B. “Jack” Green, an associate professor of marketing in Catawba College’s Ketner School of Business, and one of his students, Allan C. Rohrbaugh of Lexington, a junior in the Lifelong Learning program, recently participated in the Marketing Science Conference at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
Local Poet to Have Poem Broadcast on Garrison Keillor’s “The Writer’s Almanac”
Dr. Janice Fuller, a local poet and Catawba College’s writer-in-residence, will have one of her poems included in the July 20 broadcast of “The Writer’s Almanac,” a daily radio program hosted by Garrison Keillor. Fuller’s “My Aunt Raises Violets from Africa” will be read on the program which is broadcast to about 280 non-commercial public radio stations around the country.
Catawba College Hires Two Area Coordinators in Student Life Department
Catawba College will have two new area coordinators in the Student Life Department when the 2005-2006 academic year begins next month. Katie Slagle and Ben Smith are already on the job, said Dan Sullivan, Catawba’s Director of Residence Life.
2005 Catawba College Choir Alumni Reunion
What a success! The first reunion of former Catawba choir participants brought much excitement to the campus. Sixty-five individuals pledged to sing again with outstanding former music directors Dr. Lonny Bond, Dr. Robert Weaver, Mr. Gil Pirovano and current director, Professor Rosemary Kindard.
Wear to Speak to International Delegation on Environmental Education
Dr. John Wear, director of the Catawba College Center for the Environment, will speak July 21 to a five-person delegation from the International Visitor Leadership Program. The participants will travel to Salisbury to learn about environmental education and community participation.
Catawba College Offers Private Music Instruction
Catawba College’s Department of Music is offering private music instruction in brass instruments, woodwinds, and piano to students of all ages this summer. Dr. Steve Etters is the instructor for brass instruments, including trumpet, trombone, baritone and tuba. Maria Stine will provide private instruction in woodwinds, including clarinet, saxophone, double reed instruments and (beginner only) flute. Susan McClain is the instructor for piano students at all levels.
Catawba College Offers Musical Theatre Camp
Students between the ages of 8 and 12 who have an interest in musical theatre are encouraged to enroll in Catawba College’s Musical Theatre Camp, slated August 1-4. The camp will be held in the Williams Music Building on campus between 9 a.m. and noon each day and will be under the direction of Dr. Julie Chamberlain.
