    Catawba College Athletic Trainer Recognized

    Robert J. Casmus, head athletic trainer at Catawba College was honored earlier this month while attending the National Athletic Trainers’ Association annual meeting in Indianapolis , Indiana. He received N.A.T.A.’s Atheltic Trainer Service Award for dedicated service and outstanding contribution to the profession of athletic training and to the Association. He also received the Dan Libera Service Award from the Board of Certification, Inc. for his outstanding contributions.

    Family of Deceased Alumna to Host Scholarship Benefit

    The family of late Catawba College Alumna Brenna Lawrence ’02 will host a scholarship benefit July 16 at the home of her parents in Jamestown. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this second annual benefit will go toward establishing the Brenna Lawrence Endowed Scholarship at Catawba.

    66th Governor of the American Legion’s Tar Heel Boys’ State Elected

    Walter M. DeFoor of Garner was elected as Governor of the American Legion Tar Heel Boys’ State Wednesday, June 22 during the weeklong event held at Catawba College. DeFoor is the son of David and Cindy DeFoor. According to Boys’ State officials, Walter’s first pursuit in the political field of Boys’ State was County District Attorney.

    Tar Heel Boys’ State at Catawba College June 19-25

    Catawba College will host the 66th annual session of Tar Heel Boys’ State June 19-25. This is the third consecutive year that the weeklong event has been held on campus and close to 300 participants, all rising high school seniors from North Carolina, are expected to participate. Sponsored by the American Legion, Tar Heel Boys’ State is directed by Roger Cooke of King.     Catawba College to Host the 66th Consecutive Session of Tar Heel Girls State

    For the fifth consecutive year, Catawba College will host Tar Heel Girls State June 12-18. Approximately 300 girls from across North Carolina, all high school juniors who are academically in the top third of their class, will attend the 66th annual, weeklong session, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of North Carolina.     Alumnus Establishes Second Endowed Scholarship at Catawba College

    For Catawba College Alumnus Ron Maccaroni ’67 of Fairfax County, Virginia, establishing a second endowed scholarship at his alma mater is simply a way to say “thanks” for everything the institution has done for him. Catawba College, Maccaroni contends, well-prepared him for meaningful personal and professional life.

    Couple’s $50,000 Gift to Help Endow Campus Ministry Chair

    Catawba College Alumni Tom and Mary Jo Dennard of Charlotte have made a gift of $50,000 to help endow the Campus Ministry Chair. The couple’s gift is part of the $500,000 raised to date for this purpose. Tom, a 1977 alumnus, and Mary Jo, a 1975 alumna, also serve on the advisory committee for the Campus Ministry Chair Endowment effort and Tom is a member of Catawba’s Board of Visitors. “This early lead gift to endow the Campus Ministry Chair will serve as an inspiration to many,” said Catawba C

    Catawba to Host Choir Reunion July 8 and 9

    All former Catawba College choir members are invited to participate in a very special Choir Alumni Reunion July 8 and 9 on campus! Choir alumni are invited to bring their families and return for a weekend of music making. Events get underway Friday, July 8, with check in slated at the Williams Music Building on campus between 4 and 6 p.m. A Presidential Welcome Reception follows between 7 and 9 p.m. at the home of College President and First Lady, Robert and Brenda Knott.

    Catawba Chiefs Kick Off Membership Drive

    The Catawba Chiefs launched their 2005-2006 membership campaign June 1. The goal for this year is 425 members, according to Bill Pieczynski, Chiefs Club coordinator. “The Chiefs Club memberships support Catawba College’s intercollegiate competition,” Pieczynski said. “Without the active participation of our Chiefs Club members, competitive sports for both our male and female athletes wouldn’t be at the levels they are today.
