Incredible Season for Women's Soccer Continues with NCAA Tournament Bid
November 8, 2018
After one of their best seasons in a decade, Catawba women’s soccer season received a NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Tournament at-large bid Monday.
This is the fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the program’s 29-year history, with the last following a 15-4-2 campaign in 2008.
Fellow South Atlantic Conference foe, No. 16 Carson-Newman, earned the No. 2 seed in the region and hosts the Indians Friday at 2 p.m.
This marks the third time the teams face-off since Oct. 24, including the second on the Lady Eagles (14-4-0) home pitch. Carson-Newman defeated Catawba (13-5-0) in the final regular-season match for both teams 2-1 in double overtime. The Lady Eagles registered a 2-1 victory over the Indians Friday in the SAC Women’s Soccer Tournament semifinals at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C.
The winner of Friday’s first-round match takes on the winner of third seeded Lander from the Peach Belt Conference and Lincoln Memorial, the six seed from the South Atlantic Conference Sunday at 2 p.m. at Carson-Newman.
The third and quarterfinal-round contests take place Nov. 15-16 and Nov. 17-18. Semifinals and championship game will be played Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa. The championship match is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
