more info
A group of Catawba College's first-year, first-generation students are visiting Washington, D.C., before the spring semester begins thanks to a $100,000 CIC/Walmart College Success Awards grant. Seventeen first-year students, all first-generation college students and members of this fall's NextGen first-year seminar, departed for the nation's capital accompanied by Associate Professor of Sociology, Dr. Maria Vandergriff-Avery, and Dr. Steve Coggin, Professor of Biology and Dean of the Hurley School of Arts and Sciences. They will visit Washington area museums, historical sites, government offices and Catawba College alumni while participating in their fully funded trip. They will return to campus in time for the start of spring semester classes.
