Day 1- March 3rd, 2011
Destination: Huntington, WV
And ... they're off! We, your very own Catawba Singers, left today on their spring 2011 tour. After a slightly delayed start due to Professor Oakley's lost wallet (don't worry, we found it later) we stopped first half an hour down the road at Lexington High School, alma mater of our very own Arsherres Jenkins. After singing a few of our own pieces for them, we got to hear two of the pieces they're taking to their state choral festival next week. Several of them are interested in Catawba. Yay!
And then, we rode the bus. For many, many hours. Magic naptime occurred shortly after lunch and it was GLORIOUS. So far, it's probably unanimously the best part of tour. This afternoon, after an on-bus rehearsal, we arrived in Huntington, West Virginia at the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and sang a quick rehearsal in the beautifully decorated church. The church families made us a delicious spaghetti dinner, complete with tons of tasty treats. Yum!
We sang a two-hour concert for a very appreciative crowd and then split up to go with our host families, who all are very nice. :) Tomorrow we're headed to Indiana ... not Louisiana, Paris, France, New York or Rome.
Honest to blog,
Kara Procell
