Spring Break
by Casey Lane Hudgins '08

The beginning of my break started off at home in Virginia for three days, then off to the beach!

The ResortI ended up in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. on a small beach called Cherry Grove at the Prince Resort . We drove down on Monday when we arrived we checked in at the hotel and went out for dinner. The hotel was great it had two hot tubs, a lazy river, and pier access. Because we were at the beach, seafood was a must for dinner; I ordered fried shrimp and calamari with hushpuppies, and everything was delicious.

Tuesday was the bad weather day, it was dark and windy all day so we didn’t make it out to the beach. We went shopping instead to pass the time.

PierWednesday morning, I woke up and laid by the pool. I got so sunburned and I was only outside for about two hours. Then we went shopping again because yesterday’s shopping was kind of a bust we couldn’t find anywhere to shop, but today was a lot better. We stumbled upon some surf shops and some skateboard stores with some pretty neat stuff. I bought some sunglasses and a sun dress. Wednesday night, we decided to stay in and cook dinner, because it started to rain. Then we called it a night early so we could get up and go out on the beach early in the morning.

Thursday, we went out to Myrtle Beach and laid on the beach. Thursday night, we went out to dinner at this amazing Brazilian restaurant and then went to see a show called Le Grande Cirque.

BeachThe food in itself was amazing you had several waiters who came around with different types of meats on a skewer. You had a token that you would flip over to green if you wanted to be served, if you didn’t want to be served you would flip the token over to the red side. They had over fifteen different types of meats, garlic steak, bacon-wrapped filets, lamb, leg of lamb, and an amazing bar with fresh shrimp cocktail. It came with three sides to split, potatoes, fried plantains, and polenta. Then dessert was delicious too — we split a piece of New York style cheesecake with raspberry toppings. It was the best meal I had had in weeks.

Then we went to the show at the Palace Theatre. The show was full of acrobats, contortionists, and animals-like cats and dogs that did tricks. At one point, we had people flying above our heads, then bubbles floating from the ceiling, and the entire time an amazing light show. It was extremely entertaining.

SwampFriday was another bad weather day and also the day that we decided to drive home. We made it home by that evening and I was exhausted. Overall, it was a great trip. It had its ups and downs and by the time we left the beach, I was ready to return home to finish up the rest of the semester.
