My Senior "Bucket List"
by Casey Lane Hudgins '08
As my final semester rolls on, I've come up with a list of things that I want to accomplish before I graduate. Some of the things on my list are pretty generic, because I need to accomplish them before I graduate while others are just things that I would enjoy.
While my "bucket list" is not nearly as exciting as the list developed and executed in the movie by the same name that's now playing in theatres — you know the one starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman — accomplishing some of the things on my list would be very exciting to me.
- Learn how to cook.
This is something that I need to learn before I am thrown into the world without a meal plan. Cooking has always been difficult for me and seeing as how eating is part of surviving I need to learn.
- Paint a picture.
I love art and I love to paint, but the only problem is that I don't have time for it and I don't make time for it. I have always painted things for other people but never for myself. Now is the time to paint something just for me to hang on my wall and be proud of something I have accomplished.
- Spend time with friends.
This is a necessity, because when I graduate I don't know when I will see my friends again. It could be three months to five years before we are reunited again and I have met some amazing people here at Catawba that I don't want to forget.
- Get a tattoo and a piercing.
I have always wanted a small tattoo, but I am such an indecisive person that I can never decide on what I want and where I want to put it on my body. Piercings don't bother me at all, because I already have five holes in my head and I want maybe one or two more. College is a time where you can get by with just about anything and not be judged. When I graduate, piercings won't be culturally accepted, so, now is the only time to do this.
- Visit the train museum in Spencer.
There are a lot of neat things to see in Salisbury and the surrounding area. I have lived here for three years now and I would like to visit the train museum in Spencer before I pack my bags and move my life somewhere else.
- Visit Lazy 5 Ranch.
Lazy 5 Ranch is a drive-thru zoo outside Salisbury. It has always interested me, because I hear stories from other friends who have visited this apparently wonderful place. You can buy a bucket of feed for the animals and they come right up to the window of your car. There are zebras, giraffes, and all kinds of other zoo animals. I need to get there.
- Take a Spring Break vacation.
Since I have been in college, I have watched all of my friends go on vacations to Jamaica, Miami, and other great destinations. I myself would love to partake in a Spring Break vacation, because I have never been on one. Usually, on my breaks I go home and visit my family, because it is so hard throughout the school year to go home. This year is different though, and I am going to make it happen somehow!
- Participate in Catawbapalooza one more time.
Catawbapalooza is once-a-year event and it is a day to spend with fellow students riding rides, playing games, and winning prizes. My sophomore year during Catawbapalooza, I was in a pie-eating contest to win an Ipod Shuffle. I had to eat a whole pineapple pie in order to win. Needless to say that pie-eating was not a problem and I won the Ipod!
- Attend Winterfest Ball again.
Winterfest is a winter formal at Catawba that is similar to a prom, but more relaxed. I enjoyed it so much for the past two years that I don't want to miss it this year.
- Participate in Graduation.
I want to graduate on time, since I transferred to Catawba and lost some credits. I want to walk across the Keppel Auditorium stage with my friends on May 10th!
See how many of these items I get to cross off my list by reading my blog.
