The End of the Road ... the Last Months of Being a Senior
by Casey Lane Hudgins '08
As first semester of my senior year came to a close, I started to realize a few things about my last year in college. Never in my life will I have another month-long vacation for Christmas break or a three-month vacation for summer break. These breaks mean the world to me; they mean that I get to spend time with my family and friends, and time away from the books. Family and friends are what life is all about.
I have met so many amazing people within my three years here at Catawba whom I would have never known without the option of college. It will be sad to leave and to see them all go, but it is something that I must undoubtedly face. I realized last semester that I needed to take more photographs, I just don't have enough. I might never see my friends from college ever again and photos will be all I have to remember them by, photos plus all the many memories we have created together.
I will always remember the many Catawba football games and tailgating. Catawba has such great school spirit; we support our teams 100 percent. Sports are big here and I have enjoyed all of the sporting events that I participated in and that I watched.
Another memory is from my junior year going to Catawba's winter formal Winterfest. I love getting dressed up, who doesn't? I was able to see all my friends in pretty suits and dresses; I saw them dressed up like I had never seen before.
I will never forget sophomore year with the Swim team. Every year the team takes a Christmas training trip to get more practice during the holiday vacation. My sophomore year we went to Cocoa Beach, Florida. I got to visit Walt Disney World and spend time at the beach with friends. At Disney, we road the rides, watched the Disney parade at the end of the night, and then watched the fireworks. It was a hard trip, because of the training, but I enjoyed it. When we returned home, I ended up getting the Swimmer of the Week Award which is an award that our Coach decides each week according to your performance and effort during our practices. I never would have thought that I would have gained this award during the toughest week of training.
You never know where life will take you, and what direction others will take. So, make the best of it and never forget to spend time and stay in touch with friends.
