Adopt a Theatre Arts Senior

Adopt a Senior 2022-2023

The "Adopt a Senior" program is an exciting program for Catawba College Theatre Arts seniors that features YOU — our alumni!

We're asking for volunteer alums to "Adopt a Senior." We envision this as a mini-mentorship program that would connect individual seniors to volunteer alums who would act as touch points as these students prepare to leave Catawba and enter "the profession" or perhaps some related area of professional life! With this commitment, we are asking you to be available to your selected student via e-mail so that they may ask you questions. These questions may range from specifics about living in a certain city or part of the country, to job search strategies, to what it is like to work in a specific area of the discipline.

Please select a student or students that you feel most able to mentor and e-mail them directly using the links provided, using "Adopt a Senior Mentor" as your subject line. Introduce yourself, and you're on your way! Thank you for your willingness to participate!

A little more about me:

Hello, I’m Michelle! I am a BFA Musical Theatre major with minors in Music and Creative Writing. I wear many hats in the Catawba Theatre Department, including dramaturg, costume designer, director, and performer. This upcoming spring, I will be directing my honors thesis project Mythos. This work will be a devised piece based on female characters from mythology. We will explore the humanity behind the icons of our cultural lexicon. This is just one example of the many opportunities I have had as an undergraduate student at Catawba. Soon, I will start taking training courses with Theatrical Intimacy Education and Intimacy Professionals Association so I can learn more about the growing field of Intimacy Coordination. However, I have a strong interest in arts administration and would like to get my MFA (maybe MBA) in the next five years. Thanks to this department, I have discovered my leadership, ambition, and dedication to the arts. I cannot wait to connect with the amazing alumni that are part of our greater Catawba community!

A little more about me:

My name is Garrett Jennings. I am a senior BFA Musical Theatre major. I’ve lived in Salisbury all of my life. My love for theatre started at a young age. I started auditioning at the Norvell Theatre in Salisbury, NC, and I was involved in many of their productions up until I graduated from high school. I also began to audition at Lee Street Theatre when I started going to Catawba. My experiences at both of these theatres has further allowed me to grow and develop my skills as an artist, create long-lasting and close relationships, and has allowed me to have a unique relationship with my community. My love for theatre has only grown more passionate as I’ve started learning about all of the different areas of theatre, learning about how the industry works, and finding people who share the same passion as me. I’ve always loved performing but I’m so glad that I’ve had the opportunity to explore the technical and business aspects of theatre, and I want to continue to dig deeper into those areas. I also want to explore opportunities in film and television

Hi! My name is Kiera Whittemore and I am obviously a senior! I am a BFA Musical Theater major and transferred to Catawba in 2021. I am the oldest of 4 kids and value my family very much. I love to sing, dance, and act but I also love writing, specifically poetry, working with kids, reading, painting, any type of advocacy concerning human rights and mental health, and anything to do with theater. I have worked in the retail and childcare setting for a while but really desire starting a job within my actual field of study.
