Moss Meet the Alumni Ambassadors

george moss '64

A native of Rockingham, NC, and a first generation college student, he was very much at home while at Catawba. The small and attractive campus, the academic challenges, and of course the personal interaction, were the essence of what Catawba is all about.

After graduation in June of 1964 with a degree in Business, he became a Naval Aviator and served 5 years of active duty with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadrons, Twelve and One Twenty-One aboard four Aircraft Carriers, and at Naval Air Station Norfolk.

Additionally, George completed 25 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves flying with Reserve Squadrons VP-5, VAW-207, VR-54, and VR-46; retiring as a Captain (USNR).

An Airline Pilot Career began with Eastern Air Lines in 1970. Having flown for over 19,000 hours, both domestically and internationally for several airlines, over a period of 32 years; he retired in 2007.

Always an advocate for Catawba, George had the opportunity to join Catawba in late 1989 as an Associate Vice President for College Relations. Directing Alumni Affairs, Alumni Admissions, the Alumni Board, the Annual Fund, and the Chiefs Club contributed to an overall knowledge of development, and the invaluable experience of working with the Catawba staff. Both were a personal delight; and led to understanding the history and the many facets of Catawba.

Giving back to Catawba has always been a priority. George is a charter and continual member of the Annual Fund and the Chiefs Club. A Catawba fan, he follows every team, and visits the campus whenever possible.
