Biography
Dr. James Slate, Associate Professor of Economics, Ralph W. Ketner School of Business. Professor Slate earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Christopher Newport University in Virginia, and his Doctorate of Philosophy in Economics from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. At Tennessee, he studied economics in the American Institutionalist tradition. This practice dates to the 19th century and stresses the evolution of culture and the economy, the importance of empiricism, and the application of economics to public policy.
