Sustainable Business & Community Development Alumni Highlights

GibsonTory Kiefner '12
Sustainable Business & Community Development Graduate

"I chose Catawba for the beautiful campus, athletics and the quality time available for student- teacher interactions. I first became interested in this program when I realized that the Salisbury community and other surrounding coummunities were trying to incorporate sustainability in businesses and homes. Sustainable Business seems to be an excellent area to gain expertise in for upcoming issues the world will face. After graduation, I plan to go to law school to become an environmental lawyer or work with a company where I can teach and incorporate going 'green.' Green is the future."

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Catawba. I loved the small intimate classes since the first day of my freshman year and grew to love all the faculty of Catawba, especially those in the science department. They are always there for you, friendly and willing to help."

Environmental Science Graduate

"The Environmental Science Program at Catawba brought out in me a true passion for the environment. The professors are dedicated to preparing you and making you confident about what you know. They are passionate about creating a sustainable future; through their example, they instill in you that this is a worthwhile cause. One of the great strengths of the program is the small student-teacher ratio. You’re not lost in a sea of people. If you don’t understand something in class, there’s always someone there to explain it to you. And those in the program are like family. They celebrate together; they struggle together; they’re a big support system for each other.

If you have a passion for the environment, this is definitely the place to be."

MurphyAhmad "Murph" Murphy
Business Graduate

"The Catawba College School of Business is a place where the professors care about students' learning and their futures. My friends at the big schools sometimes would call me for the one-on-one help they needed with their business courses. As an athlete, I especially appreciated the individual attention students get. I represented the College on the court knowing I had support in the classroom."

Derek Rogers '07
Environmental Science Graduate

"I came to Catawba thinking I would major in Psychology, but I had always had an interest in the outdoors and conservation, so my sophomore year I declared Environmental Science as my major. I fell in love with the program. It taught me to think in a more logical, holistic way. The guided senior research was also important. I spent a lot of time on the campus’ ecological preserve doing my research, and I really came to appreciate it and the Center for the Environment, two things that most schools don’t have. I would recommend Catawba’s program over any other school."

Business Graduate

"The Business School at Catawba College has prepared me with all of the right tools for my future while helping to mold me into the well-rounded individual I am today. The one-on-one attention that I received from my professors and administrators really helped me to succeed in my studies as well as my personal life. By incorporating a Liberal Arts education into my Business studies I have acquired a true sense of Business ethics, which has shaped my character and standards."
