"I like psychology because it's interesting and challenging, and I can meet other goals I have here at the same time because the Department works on scheduling classes and practical experiences with me. I'm ultimately interested in moving on to graduate school in counseling and I think I'm getting a really good foundation for that here!"

Katie Zink '12
Psychology Major; Business Minor; Sociology Minor

"The psychology department is like a second family to me. The professors are always willing to help with anything and all of the students are very dedicated to their education. Because there are only a few of us in the department, I feel like I am important and that the professors are teaching to teach me. I love Catawba in general, but the psychology department is absolutely awesome!!"

Cinthia Rodriguez '13
Psychology Major/Sociology Minor

"The psychology department made it easier for me to transfer and has made me comfortable in the department as well as in the school. I think that the human mind and how it works is a fascinating field to study. I want to know why we behave and a ct differently under certain circumstances, and what makes us react in the form that we do."

Rodriguez

David Bowling '13
Dual Psychology-Politics Major

"From a very young age I have been interested in the way the human mind works. I was always fascinated by what people do and puzzled as to why they may do those things. The Psychology department at Catawba College has opened multiple windows of insight towards these topics. The department offers a great variety of courses to explore every inch of the psychological field. The classes are geared towards real life experiences and uses. I know that with an education from this department I will be more than sufficiently able in the multiple uses of a psychology degree."

Bowling

Maura Pantone '13
Dual Psychology-Sociology Major

"I love the Psychology Department here at Catawba because it feels like home. The classes are great, the professors are more than helpful, and the other students really form a close knit group. I know that I can always go to any one of my psychology professors and ask for their help or guidance and they'd be willing to help out. The Catawba College Psychology Department is really something special."

Judy Crenshaw '13
Psychology Major; Sociology Minor

"I am a junior transfer student from Davidson County Community College. I chose psychology as my major to be of service to people with drug and alcohol problems within the minimum security prison system. I mainly will be working with the female population. I see both psychology and sociology as a way of having an understanding this population. I may even go further in my education and become a minister. I see a possibility of being part of the prison ministry."

"I am in psychology because I am intrigued by the way the human mind works. I want to get my PsyD or my PhD and pursue clinical psychology. I want to work in hospitals full time, and pursue a career as a mental health specialist. Only time will tell. Psychology has always been so interesting to me because I like to take apart people’s emotions and figure out why they act as they do!"

Bransyn Motley '15
Psychology Major/Many Minor Interests!

"Why psychology?: As I pursue my future career in law, I feel the discipline of psychology will assist me in understanding how and why people do the things they do. The ability to understand the mind and how it works will help me to ask better questions which will in turn make me a better lawyer. Aside from that, I simply just find the subject fascinating."

Katie Hill '15

"I plan to use Psychology with the field of law. I plan to attend law school and then pursue my specific area of law as a legal- aid attorney. However if I decide to change my mind, then I would also might want to use Psychology as a criminologist. I would then need to attend graduate school in order for that to be possible."
