Matthew Newton

Matthew Newton is a recent graduate of Catawba College. He received a B.A. in Sacred Music with concentrations in Voice, under Dennis Jewett. Matthew was a member of the Catawba Singers for 4 years and served as the president of the ensemble from 2009-2010. He was also a member of the Chamber Singers for 3 years and still sings in the Catawba Chorale. He was the recipient of the 2010 Chairman's Award in music (selected by the faculty) and also received the 2010 Fred Corriher Catawba Singers Award (selected by his peers).

Matthew has served as a guest director for First United Church of Christ and First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury and has been hired as a professional singer by First United Methodist, Shiloh Reformed Church of Faith, and Ethos Consortium of Charlotte. He is also a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and is pursuing a career in choral conducting. Matthew is currently the assistant director at First United Church of Christ in Salisbury and, most recently, has been hired as the director of the Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society.
