Instructor in Music (Piano)
Jiao teaches secondary private piano lessons, class piano, and aural skills classes. She is an active collaborative artist, and accompanies lessons and recitals for vocalists and instrumentalists. She's currently pursuing Doctor of Music Arts degree in Piano Performance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received M.M. in Piano performance from Syracuse University, and the B. M. , summa cum laude, in Piano Performance from Columbus State University.
She is affiliated with professional organizations including College Music Society, Music Teacher's National Association.
Wei Jiao, born in Shenyang, Liaoning, People's Republic of China, started to play piano at the age of six. Ms. Jiao, who holds a BA from the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, a BM in Piano Performance from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, and an MM in Piano Performance from Syracuse University, is now pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance at UNCG. She came to the United States in 2003 as the recipient of a generous scholarship and also received the Woodruff Award from the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State. In 2004 Ms. Jiao won the concerto competition at CSU and performed with the Columbus Student Orchestra. She also received the Alternate prize in the Young Artist Piano Competition of the Georgia Music Teachers Association and the first prize scholarship from the Atlanta Music Club. She graduated from CSU summa cum laude in 2007. She won the Grand Prize Winner of the concerto competition at the UNCG School of Music, and performed Tchaikovsky piano concerto no. 1 I. with UNCG Symphony Orchestra in 2010. Mrs. Jiao has held full-time teaching assistantships in the piano departments of Syracuse University and UNCG. She is currently teaching piano and aural skills classes at Catawba College.
