Catawba College will host a College Music Society Summit on Popular Music in Higher Education June 25-26, 2010 in Washington, DC.
The summit has been designed as an intimate two-day gathering of representatives from the leading colleges and universities with established popular music programs.
Representatives from the following schools will attend:
- Berklee College of Music
- Belmont University
- Catawba College (host school)
- Colorado Denver, University of
- Contemporary Music Center
- Greenville College
- McNally Smith College of Music
- Memphis, University of
- Miami, University of
- New York University
- Southern California, University of
MENC's Music Education Week will serve as the backdrop for the event. The organization is showing its support for the summit by providing meeting space and extending to attendees its conference accommodation rates. The Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA will be used as the headquarters for both the summit and Music Education Week.
The CMS event constitutes the first-ever summit of the leading colleges and universities that educate students of popular music. It will give representatives an opportunity to compare notes on vital aspects of their field and, together, begin to chart a collective course for the future of the discipline.
