Continued in his own words:
All of my courses focus on great ideas studied through great works within their historical contexts. For example, in the Emerging Western World course, we blend art (Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel frescoes), political science (Machiavelli's Prince), and literature (Shakespeare's Macbeth). In addition to the regular surveys in European history, I offer special topics courses such as Mythology and the Fine Arts, World Religions in Art, Renaissance Florence, Rome: Art and Archaeology, and Tolstoy. Reading, writing, computer technology, and discussions characterize my classes. Beyond teaching in the classroom and spending many hours talking with students in the rocking chairs in my office, I officiate volleyball for USA Volleyball and the NCAA."
