Modern Foreign Languages Alumni Highlights

ThomsonSusan Fisher '11
Spanish Graduate

"I chose Spanish as my major because I had studied the language since I was a child and wanted to continue my formal education of the language. With the number of Spanish speakers growing in the United States, I understood how invaluable being fluent in Spanish would be once I was looking for jobs after college."

French Graduate

"I chose Catawba because the campus was so gorgeous, and the professors made me feel so comfortable and welcome. They helped me learn in the classroom, but also became really great friends of mine outside of school. There is no better place to learn what you love and be able to live it. The professors are incredible, the student body is diverse, interesting, and amazing.

After college, I would like to teach English in France through a position with the US Embassy."

While at Catawba, Kali's activities included: Editor of the Arrowhead, member of Alpha Chi, Phi Epsilon, Phi Sigma Iota, Wigwam, E.C.O., and the Honors program; volunteer at Rowan Helping Ministries.

Spanish Graduate

"I chose a Spanish major because I love the language and learning about other cultures. I spent a month in Costa Rica with a Catawba program, and it was a great experience, adding to my education both academically and personally. A Spanish major will help my career in International Development, especially working in Latin American countries. I believe that knowing another language and understanding another culture is crucial to success in today's world in any field."
